Oranges and Sunshine tells the story of Margaret Humphreys, a social worker from Nottingham, who uncovered one of the most significant social scandals in recent times: the forced migration of children from the United Kingdom. Almost single handedly, against overwhelming odds and with little regard for her own well-being, Margaret reunited thousands of families, brought authorities to account and worldwide attention to an extraordinary miscarriage of justice.

Please feel free to drop into the Cygnet Café before and after the film for a great cup of tea, a perfectly brewed coffee and a snack or two!

Was a Classic and Dainty Affair

Our Vintage High Tea this year was an outstanding success!

Our Ladies came in their favourite spring dress and hat and enjoyed a bountiful selection of tasty and exquisite culinary delights prepared by The Catergirls combined with some of our Esther Girls to support The Esther Foundation. This splendidly feminine afternoon was a great opportunity to connect with other ladies in the community whilst giving The Esther Foundation girls a chance to display their gifts and talents as they put on this charming occasion.

The afternoon included a delicious afternoon tea, a motivational speech, the Esther Dance Crew, entertainment, silent auction items and prizes.

This event was a completely sold out event and will be even bigger and more spectacular next year! Stay tuned for more details!

Unmasking the true beauty of young lives in need.

Well what a fantastic evening it was for all guests at the Grand Ballroom of the Burswood Entertainment Complex, for this extravagant event that highlighted and displayed these amazing young women and their powerful journey through this multi-award winning women's health and development program..

With this, we give thanks to our Proud Partners, Major Sponsors [listed below], Vmoto, Holiday Planet and all donations that were given toward the live and silent auctions on the night.

Again, the event was SOLD OUT, and filled with more than 380 people.

The event was attended and officially opened by the Minister for Youth, Ms Donna Faragher, with tickets and tables secured for the following Federal and State Members of Parliament, as well the following distiguished guests;

The Esther Foundation and Lavan Legal were proud to present keynote speaker the Hon. Colin Barnett MLA, Premier of Western Australia, along with other key business and community leaders, as they shared their journey and roles within assisting the multi-award winning charitable organisation the Esther Foundation.

This early evening event was held at Lavan Legal and included splendid food and refreshments from CATERGIRLS, as well as additional guest speakers;

South West Camps

All 38 program participants attend camps in the south-west of Western Australia in summer and winter. The camps include surfing, snorkelling, beach and bushwalking, picnics, visits to Busselton Jetty and the underwater observatory, crabbing, fishing, shell collecting and the most anticipated evnt each camp; the dune race up the huge dune at Injinup Point.

Having just completed our 15th camp in the South West, it is no surprise to us that many program participants have never visited the south west before and to give them this opportunity is extremely rewarding for all involved with the organisation

Also special thanks to Make a Difference Foundation for buying us a new bus, though we will will miss the much cherished and character filled loaner that stood us so well, for so many years. With this, special thanks go to Fresh Start Northam for allowing us the use of their bus for so many camps. Here the girls are 'jump starting' the old 'sometimes faithful' bus.

World Champ dives in for the young women of Western Australia

The Esther Foundation is excited to announce Shelley Taylor-Smith as Patron of its multi award winning residential women's health, development and leadership program, based in South Perth, Western Australia.

Patricia Lavater, Director & Founder of the Esther Foundation stated "We feel so honoured and privileged to have someone of the calibre of Shelley to not only lend her experience and give her support toward this charitable organisation, but also to play a role with the many young women that come into our care at the foundation. She is just such an inspiration to all of us..."

Shelley Taylor-Smith is best known for her marathon swimming achievements as 7-time Women's World Marathon Swimming Champion 1988-1995 & World No.1 Ranked Marathon Swimming Champion Overall 1991 [for both men & women] a feat never repeated by any woman in the history of any sport worldwide. Shelley joins forces with Patricia Lavater [Citizen of the Year Recipient 2008], to create champions in the young women of Western Australia, by encouraging, empowering and enriching them to reach their full potential.

Ms Taylor-Smith stated "I know what I achieved in my marathon swimming career was due to the unbelievable support from the people of Western Australia. The WA community backed me; a young woman with an awe mighty dream at a time when there was no sponsorship or government funding. So humbly and without hesitation I accept the role as Patron."

Shelley Taylor-Smith has been recognised with the highest possible awards and achievements in her life including her personal favourite as a 2-time Australian of the Year finalist 1990 & 1991 [representing Western Australia]. She wishes to use her profile to create awareness in the community about the many issues and challenges that face young women today, whilst also focussing on seeking more support for the Esther Foundation and the highly valued community service it provides in Western Australia.

"This is my opportunity to ‘gift' back to my favourite backyard, Perth, by supporting these amazing young women in our WA community. I have a strong sense of urgency to support them to believe in themselves and find their passion and purpose for life; so that they too can achieve what I believe is their birthright... success, however they define success!"

The Esther Foundation facilitates a young woman's health, development and leadership program that operates from seven residential premises in South Perth, housing more than thirty five young women and their children. The organisation offers extensive support and assistance to young women, in a safe and structured environment. The broadly structured program facilitates specific group and individual counselling for different concerns faced by young women, provides education, leadership and workplace training; life skills; health, sport and fitness teams; and an extensive creative arts program. The Esther Foundation is a not for profit organisation and does not receive Government funding for its day to day operations. The residential environment is based on intensive care and ongoing support, where young women can begin to believe in themselves and gain a new confidence by making positive steps toward a brighter future.
